Bangladesh lost Twenty20 International (T20I) series 2-0 to West Indies after the hosts recorded a five-wicket victory over the tourists in the third T20I at Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh piled up a fighting total of 163 for the loss five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
In reply, West Indies reached the winning target making 169 for the loss of five wickets when they had just 10 balls to spare.
Bangladesh made a modest start as openers Litton Das and Anamul Haque put on together 35 runs in the opening stand before Anamul (10) was caught at the third man by Akeal Hosein off Odean Smith.
One-down Shakib Al Hasan (5) was caught at the mid wicket by Smith off Romario Shepherd when the tourists’ score was 42 for the loss of two wickets.
Then, Litton Das and Afif Hossain fought back scoring together 57 runs for the third wicket partnership before Litton Das was caught at the point by Akeal off Hayden Walsh when the home side’s total was 99 for the loss of three wickets.
Litton hit a fine 49. His 41-ball innings was laced with three fours and two sixes.
After Litton’s dismissal, Afif Hossain and Mahmudullah Riyad built another notable partnership. They scored together 49 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Mahmudullah (22) was trapped leg before wicket by Walsh when the touring side’s score was 148 for the loss of four wickets.
Afif was run out by a joint-effort of Rovman Powell and Nicholas Pooran when Bangladesh’s score was 150 for the loss of five wickets.
Afif notched up a sparkle 50. His 38-ball knock was belted with two fours and two sixes.
Walsh was his team’s most successful bowler for his side. He bagged two wickets at the cost of 25 runs.
Later, West Indies faced early debacle as they lost three wickets for 43 runs.
Then, Kyle Mayers and Pooran rescued their team from danger contributing together 85 runs for the fourth wicket stand before Mayers was caught at the mid wicket by Mahedi Hasan off Nasum Ahmed when the islanders’ total was 128 for the loss of four wickets.
Pooran remained unbeaten with 74 runs. His 39-ball innings was studded with five sixes and five fours. He was adjudged the Man of the Match for his superb batting display.
Mayers hit a marvelous 55. He hit five sixes and two fours in his 38-ball knock.
In-form Rovman Powell (5) was caught by Litton off Afif when the home side’s score was 153 for the loss of five wickets.
Pooran and Akeal guided their team to reach the winning target.
Nasum Ahmed bagged two wickets in the space of 44 runs, while Afif Hossain, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahedi Hasan took one wicket each for 10, 10 and 21 runs respectively.
