BD heading in planned way for SDGs: Tofail

Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed on Thursday said Bangladesh is moving ahead in a planned way for attaining the sustainable development goals (SDGs) declared by United Nations (UN), as the country has already set instance for successful implementation of MDGs.
The minister passed the remarks after having a meeting with UNDP resident representative Robert D Watkins at his ministry office.
Mentioning that environment for foreign direct investment has been created in the country, Tofail said: “Country has sufficient power while there will be no gas crisis after 2018 and that is why many countries are showing interests to invest here.”
He said green factories are being established in Bangladesh securing labour rights and working friendly atmosphere, and hoped the progress would be expedited with the UN assistance.
Terming the progress attained by Bangladesh as eye catching, Robert D Watkins opined that other countries could follow Bangladesh for development.
Referring to Bangladesh’s success in attaining MDGs, he said Bangladesh will also be successful in achieving SDGs.
Commerce Secretary (In-charge) Shuvashih Basu was present during the meeting.
