Bangladesh has gained notable success in health services due to honesty and sincerity of physicians and nurses, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque.
“Bangladesh has gained ‘Vaccine Hero’ award recently due to its promises to remove lethal diseases from the country. Our
doctors and nurses played a vital role behind getting the award,” he said this while addressing a programme at a convention center in the city on Sunday. Health Secretary Asadul Islam and Directorate General of Health Services DG Abul Kalam Azad, among others, attended the programme, organized following appointment of 4,443 doctors through a special BCS.
Zahid Maleque said, “You (physicians) have an important responsibility on health services to our countrymen. You will have to be honest and sincere on duties.”
He said that the diseases like Polio, tetanus have eliminated from the country. TB and HIV are under control. All of those successes have been achieved due to our doctors’ and nurses’ tireless activities on health services. The minister said that 80 per cent of our people are living in district and upazila levels. The newly appointed doctors will work for those areas.
He asked the newly appointed doctors to do their best to make Bangladesh healthier. He also said that the medical treatment facilities have reached on the doorsteps of the citizens through community clinics.
“The numbers of bed have also been doubled in district and upazila level hospitals with modern buildings and equipment. 35 government and 70 private medical colleges have also been established in the country. But it was only 10 during the liberation war,” he said.
