BD fisherman shot dead by Myanmar’s BGP

A Bangladeshi fisherman was shot dead and another critically injured by Border Guard Police of Myanmar in the Naf river of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar district early Thursday.
The victim was identified as Nur Muhammad, 35, son of one late Siddique Ahmad from Purba Maheshkhaliapara area in Kharangkhali village of Howaikang. Another fisherman, Abul Kalam, 30, was also injured in the incident
Quoting local sources, Union Parishad (UP) Chairman of Howaikang union Nur Ahmed Anwari

said that “Nur Muhammad was gunned down by BGP when he went fishing in the Naf River. He died on the spot, and his companion Abul Kalam was injured.”
After hearing the incident, members of BGB rescued Nur’s body and sent injured Kalam to a local hospital.
Commanding Officer of Border Guard Bangladesh Lt Col Md Faisal Hasan Khan confirmed the matter to the media. Lt Col Md Faisal said also, BGB has sent a letter to BGP summoning an explanation. “The incident is regrettable,” he added.
