Sports Reporter :
Bangladesh will face New Zealand in their last Group-A match of the ICC Champions Trophy at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff today. The match starts at 3.30 pm (Bangladesh Time). Private satellite channel GTV will telecast the match live.
Before today’s encounter, the Tigers meet the Kiwis on 21 occasions. Of them, Bangladesh registered nine victories, while New Zealand won rest of the matches.
If Bangladesh want to play in the semi-final, Tigers have to win in the today’s match.
On the other hand, it is must-win game for New Zealand if the Kiwis need to reach the semi-finals.
Earlier, England confirmed their semi-final berth from Group-A collecting four points from two matches.
Favourites Australia gained two points from two matches.
Bangladesh and New Zealand earned one point each from their respective two matches.
If Bangladesh win against New Zealand and Australia lose to England, then Bangladesh will reach the semi-finals.
In-form batsman Tamim Iqbal said, ” We had a historical victory in this ground. In 2005, Bangladesh beat Australia by five wickets in this field.”
Though Tamim was not a member of that squad, but he hopes the victory will give them inspiration against the Kiwis. Besides, Bangladesh had a win against New Zealand in the match of the Tri-Nation Series on May 24 before the ICC Champions Trophy.
Tamim said, ” We played many matches against New Zealand. We have got confidence to play against them. The Kiwis have some good sides. But, we can achieve good result against them. We have to be conscious to play against them. It is not the only factor for us that we can reach the semis. But, it is important for us to win against them.”
