Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket team emerged as the champions of the ICC Women’s World T20 Qualifiers after thrashing their counterpart Ireland National Women’s Cricket team by 25 runs in the final at Utrecht in the Netherlands on Saturday.
Sent into bat first, Bangladesh Women made a fighting total of 122 for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then shot out Ireland Women for 97 off 18.4 overs.
Ayasha Rahman off Bangladesh notched up her team’s highest of 46. Her 42-ball knock was studded with five fours and two sixes.
Fargana Haque hit a run-a-ball 17.
Besides, Shamima Sultana and Jahanara Alam scored 16 and 12 runs respectively.
LK O’Reilly of Ireland captured four wickets at the cost of 28 runs, while CJ Matcalfe bagged a pair of wickets instead of 24 runs.
Besides, L Delany took one wicket conceding 19 runs.
Later, Bangladesh bowlers dominated over Ireland cricketers and bundled out Ireland for a paltry total.
Panna Ghosh bowled extremely well and played the key role in demolishing Ireland innings. Panna claimed five wickets at the cost of 16 runs. Panna Ghosh was adjudged the Player of the Match for her outstanding bowling performance.
Rumana Ahmed and Nahida Akter bagged a couple of wickets each instead of 14 and 15 runs respectively.
Besides, Jahanara Alam took one wicket for 12 runs.
GH Lewis and EAJ Richardson fought back against the tight and controlled bowling attack of Bangladesh.
Lewis notched up a polished 26 from 30 balls featuring four fours, while Richardson made 23 from 19 balls including three fours.
