BD elected vice-president of Paris confce on ozone layer

Bangladesh has been elected vice-president at the ’26th Meeting of the Parties of Montreal Protocol’ and the ’10th Meeting of ‘Conference of the Parties of Vienna Convention’.
The meetings were held on November 20 at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris where Deputy Minister for Environment and Forests Abdullah Al Islam Jacob was elected vice-president on behalf of Bangladesh.
The deputy minister is leading the Bangladesh delegation to the conference from November 17 to 21. Bolivia and Guatemala were elected presidents at the two meetings of the conference.
The global conference had discussions on ways to reduce production and use of substances depleting the ozone layer and the progress achieved following the Montreal Protocol came into effect.
The Montreal Protocol was signed on September 16 in 1987 and it came into effect on January 1 in 1989.
