BD elected UNGA VP

Bangladesh was elected unanimously on Tuesday Vice President of the upcoming 71 Session of the United National General Assembly (UNGA).
Different regional groups elected 15 more Vice Presidents on the day.
The candidature of Bangladesh for the position of Vice President of 71 Session of UNGA was endorsed by the Asia-Pacific Group (APG). The term of 71 Session will begin in September with
the commencement of the 71st General Assembly session.
As per rules, all the P-5 countries of United Nations Security Council are also the Vice Presidents of the UNGA session.
The UNGA elected Peter Thomson, Permanent Representative of Fiji, President of its upcoming session.
Thomson, who will replace current General Assembly President Mogens Lykketoft from Denmark, got elected defeating Andreas D. Mavroyiannis from Cyprus through voting.
As the Vice President of 71 session of UNGA, Bangladesh will be able to augment its active participation in the work of the United Nations.
