Coronavirus outbreak: BD death toll now 9, total cases 88

One more died from the coronavirus in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours till Sunday, taking the death toll in the country to nine.
Besides, 18 more people were diagnosed with coronavirus during the period. With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has risen to 88.
Sunday’s data of new cases was also the highest in a single day since the first three cases were confirmed on March 8.
Health Minister Zahid Malik said it during a regular briefing through online.
He also acknowledged that the return of readymade garment factory workers to capital Dhaka amid the coronavirus crisis was indeed a terrible development.
“This is in no way good in the current situation. We will make sure that this does not happen again… BGMEA, BKMEA is not under the health services directorate, so we cannot control their actions,” he added.
However, three more patients have made recovered from the disease, raising the number of patients who have so far recovered to 33.
Currently, 46 patients are under treatment.
Meanwhile, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has kept the capital’s Bashabo and Tolerbagh (in Mirpur) areas under its supervision, as 20 people were found infected with coronavirus there.
Of them, 11 corona patients have been detected at Tolerbagh, while nine at Bashabo, said IEDCR director Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora.
She said, all the 20 people have got infected recently and they are cases of cluster transmission.
Flora said they are now collecting samples of other residents of the areas for tests regularly.
She said they tested the samples of 367 people and found 18 of them infected with the virus in the last 24 hours.
Of the all new patients, she said, 15 were men and 12 were from Dhaka.
Dr. Flora said that the ninth deceased was a man from Narayanganj.
