The members of Bangladesh preliminary squad took part in their practice session in Negombo, Sri Lanka on Friday. The head coach of Bangladesh team Russell Domingo, batting coach Jon Lewis, pace bowling coach Ottis Gibson gave priority to the cricketers for fielding practice. The players took part in fielding practice, did catch practice and also took part in the net session.
It may be mentioned that there is a proverb about fielding of cricket : ”Catch miss means match miss.”
Bangladesh Cricket team saw the truth of that proverb in the recently concluded New Zealand series. Players of Bangladesh team missed a lot of catches in their ODI matches and thus they tasted defeat to the Kiwis.
Players of Bangladesh team are now in Sri Lanka to play two Test matches against Sri Lanka. The Test matches are part of ICC Test Championship.
After three-day quarantine, the players of Bangladesh took part in the practice sessions for the second day. Two avoid the nightmare of New Zealand campaign, the Team Management of Bangladesh are very conscious about miss fielding and miss the catches in the matches.
The pacers and the spinners bowled against the experienced batsmen and also the promising batsmen.
The 21-member Bangladesh preliminary squad will take part in an intra-squad match on April 17 and on April 18 at Katunayake. After watching the performance of the cricketers, the Team Management will announce the final squad for the upcoming two Test matches. The first Test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be held at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy from April 21 to April 25.
The second Test match between the tourists and the hosts will take part at the same venue on April 29 to May 3.
The Bangladesh team will leave the Island for Dhaka on May 4.
Promising batsmen Saif Hasan said, ” The intra-squad match is a vital affair for us. It will be an opportunity for us to adapt with the condition and the weather. We can understand about the wickets and the environment after playing the practice match.”
