Future of education, skills defined in Kazan

Bangladesh for the first time has made its footsteps in global skills with participation of two of its contestants at Kazan WorldSkills Competition 2019 among 1,354 competitors from 63 countries and regions across the globe.
The 45th four-day competition where participates in 56 skills are contesting, was inaugurated on August 23, 2019. Besides, there are 3500 volunteers, 200,000 visitors, 1300 experts who have gathered at the Worldskills village in Kazan, Russia.
From Bangladesh, Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Md. Nojibur Rahman is leading the team comprising of Executive Chairman of the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) and Secretary Md. Faruque Hossain, NSDA Member Rezaul Karim, two competitors Tanjim Tabassum Islam and Nafisa Sadaf Achol are now in Kazan.
Tanjim Tabassum Islam is contesting the global skills competition from confectionery and patisserie trade and Nafisa Sadaf Achol from fashion designing. They were selected through the nationwide Rising Star Competition last year.
“Our competitors are doing well. They have been making satisfactory performance in global skills. Both of the competitors have done well in the first day,” said Fauque Hossain while sharing his excitement through social media.
“The WorldSkills Kazan 2019 opening ceremony was absolutely incredible,” he said adding, “Tanjim and Nafisa are working hard in their respective trades,” he added.
The WorldSkills Kazan 2019 ceremony was inaugurated on the evening of August 23, 2019 at the Kazan Arena in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, Russia.
Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev addressed competitors and audience in a speech delivered after the show.
“Russia hosts a global-level skills competition for the first time, and we are very proud of that. The WorldSkills Competition has become far more than just a youth contest. In fact, it has grown into a Competition for the Future, forming a diverse multicultural and international platform where participants can work, compete, and communicate; for the future, where inspiration, discovery, friendship, and new achievements find place,” expressed Medvedev.
“WorldSkills does help find one’s path in life and reach one’s potential. And this is the reason of the movement’s success in Russia. I wish each of the competitors good luck and success, and to be able to settle the nerves. Have faith in yourself, and you will make it through. I declare open the 45th WorldSkills Competition,” added Medvedev.
“We have great expectations for the next days, our anticipation heightened by this marvellous opening ceremony and the sight of all those young people carrying the flags of so many nations, as well as carrying the hopes of their generation. What they show, and what we say, loud and clear, is that Skills Change Lives, and that they can transform societies and economies, as well as bringing prosperity and stability across the World,” shared Mr Simon Bartley, President of WorldSkills International, during his speech.
WorldSkills Kazan 2019 is expected to be the largest WorldSkills Competition ever held, and takes place during four days at the Kazan Expo International Exhibition Centre.
The ceremony ended with competitors and experts taking the WorldSkills oaths. The organization’s flag was then raised marking the start of the world championships of vocational skills.
In 2015, Kazan was awarded the right to hold the event, after a vote of WorldSkills members. WorldSkills Russia works in all 85 regions of the country and is one of the priority projects for the federal government in the field of personnel training and economic development.
The skill competitions include a diverse collection of skills ranging from cooking and aircraft maintenance, to water technology and hotel reception.
Earlier on August 20, a large number of school students visited Kazan Expo on and were rewarded with a host of information about vocational skills and career options for their future. They particularly enjoyed the opportunity to try their hands at the various skills within the special Try-a-Skill zones. Activities included master classes, presentations, or demonstrations.

As official delegate of Bangladesh, Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Md. Nojibur Rahman voted for electing next chairperson of WorldSkills, two board members and the venue of WorldSkills Compitetion 2023. Japan and France bid the election and France won it. Principal Secretary later greeted new chair of WorldSkills.
Over 1,300 WorldSkills Kazan 2019 competitors were given a tour of their host city and they saw all of the sites and learnt about local culture and customs.
A General Assembly of WorldSkills was held after finance committee meeting.
On 23 August, the second edition of the Summit for Ministers, who are in charge of vocational education and training in their countries, kicked off as part of WorldSkills Conference 2019.
The ministers from more than 40 countries arrived in Kazan to participate in the Summit. During the busy two-day business programme, they deliberated on the most advanced approaches to the workforce training system excellence.
Tatyana Golikova, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, gave a welcome speech, announcing that the Ministers Summit is undoubtedly one of the key events of WorldSkills Kazan 2019 Conference.
The present economic situation forces transformations in the education system and the labour market. A new approach to workforce training should be student-oriented and personalized on a large-scale, enabling unlocking the potential of each employee. WorldSkills offers an opportunity to modify the education system, establish new standards, and level up skills training to meet the needs of nowadays.
In their speech, Tatyana Golikova underlined that Russia had been actively implementing WorldSkills standards for developing the national system of vocational education and training, and would keep on with that mission. During the Summit, the delegates will get introduced to the Russian initiatives for improving the Comparability of Performance Measurement in professional education based on the WorldSkills methodology which will allow assessing and compare not only champions but also the general training level of specialists in different countries.
“I guess the potential of the symbiotic relations between the WorldSkills movement and national ministries in charge of education has much more to offer. We are just at the starting point to leverage on the interaction of these two vehicles and reform our education systems. This high-profile Summit will definitely become a unique platform to new initiatives and practices,” summarized Tatyana Golikova.
On the first day of the Summit, the delegates have dwelt on the topic “Development of international cooperation: new approaches to measurement and assessment of learning performance”.
“Thanks to WorldSkills Kazan 2019. We are hosting this high-profile forum. I am sure the Summit will become a sound platform for discussing most pressing issues of human capital development and training, which are so vital for different countries. Here, in Tatarstan, Russia, we are very happy to host the events that will possibly define the future of education and skills,” said Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan.
