BD changes ambassadors in three countries

The Bangladesh ambassador in Portugal Imtiaz Ahmed has been transferred to Germany while the ambassador in Berlin Muhammad Ali Sorcar has been posted in Egypt in a latest change of diplomatic postings.
Md Ruhul Alam Siddique, now a director general at the foreign ministry, will take his first ambassadorial posting to replace Ahmed in Portugal, according to statements issued on Tuesday.
However, the ministry did not say where the current ambassador in Egypt Md Wahidur Rahman will be posted.
The new ambassador in Germany Ahmed is a career diplomat who belongs to the 1984 batch of BCS Foreign Affairs.
Apart from Portugal, Ahmed earlier served as the envoy in Sweden, Nepal, and Bhutan. He also served at Bangladesh missions in Rome, Cairo, Washington DC and Kuala Lumpur in various capacities.
A geology graduate from the Dhaka University, Ahmed has a diploma in French Language from Audio-visual Centre for Modern Language (CAVILAM), Vichy, France and DESS Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from International Institute for Public Administration (IIAP), Paris, France.
A doctor by training, Sorcar, who has been appointed the envoy in Cairo, belongs to the BCS 1986 batch of foreign affairs.
He served as the ambassador in Netherlands, Deputy Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN in New York and Bangladesh Embassy in Brussels.
The foreign ministry statement describes him as a “specialist in the multilateral arena of diplomacy, especially on UN System”. He passed MBBS from Mymensingh Medical College and later did his masters from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy from the Tufts University in USA.
The new ambassador to Portugal, Siddique belongs to 11th batch of BCS Foreign Affairs.
The public administration graduate from Dhaka University now works as the director general of East Asia and Pacific wing at the ministry.
He earlier served as minister in the Bangladesh High Commission, New Delhi before his assignment as the Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi. He also served in Bangladesh Embassy in Berlin, High Commission in Singapore in different capacities.
