Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad and chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Sunday said Bangladesh has already become a role model for the world in terms of women empowerment.
“The social safety net programme undertaken by the present government has reduced the poverty of marginal women to a great extent making the women economically and socially self-reliant,” she told the inaugural session of Nibedita App and Pioneer Celebration programme in the city here on Saturday.
She also said the education policy of the government, tuition-free female education, stipend for students, Prime Minister’s Education Assistant Trust, widow allowance, divorced women allowance, Vulnerable Group Development (VGD), reduction of maternal mortality, reduction of infant mortality, community clinics and microcredit loan have been attributed to eliminating poverty and ensuring health care facilities for the women.
The Speaker said that the Nibedita App would play a vital role in ensuring women health and making an instant response to the fire-affected. She urged the Nibedita App Insurance to fix up meager premium, adding small premium will bring more women under the programme.
Green Delta Insurance organized the function while State Minister for the Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Ministry Zunaid Ahmed Palak, United State (US) Ambassador to Dhaka Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat, former Bangladesh Permanent Representative to United Nation (UN) Dr A K Abdul Momen, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the insurance Farzana Chaudhury and Advisor of the insurance Nasir A Chaudhury addressed the function, among others.
