Bangladesh is ahead of India and Pakistan in economic independence. Bangladesh is staying in the second position among the South Asian countries in this regard. Such information was found in the economic independence index of the Heritage Foundation, a US-based research organization.
According to the Heritage Foundation’s index, Bangladesh’s position in economic independence is 121th. South Asia’s superpower India is at 129. And Pakistan’s
position is at 131. Sri Lanka, Nepal and Maldives are ranked 115th, 136th and 141st respectively. Bhutan is ahead of Bangladesh in South Asia with its position 74th.
Bangladesh has improved seven steps from last year in economic independence index. Bangladesh scores 55.6 this year. On the other hand, India’s score is 55.2 and Pakistan’s score is 55.
The Heritage Foundation’s report said that the ruling government of Bangladesh took steps to remove bureaucratic barriers to increase investment opportunities. 54 percent adult Bangladeshi citizens have bank accounts. Apart from this, in trade independence Bangladesh has progressed even further.
