BD achieves progress in mother & child health care

Bangladesh has shown remarkable advancement in protection of Mother and Child health, but the country yet to achieve ‘zero maternal death’ during the delivery time, said the speakers at a seminar in city recently. The second day program of a three-day long National Conference on ‘Sexual & Reproductive Health and Rights-2016’ was held at Shamsur Rahman Auditorium of Bangla Academy in the city.
The conference was presided over by the head of the department of Public Health department of North South University Naznin Akhter and was moderated by Editor of Daily Bhorer Kagoj Shyamal Dutta. Also took part in the discussion were Executive Director of PSTC Dr. Nur Mohammad, Bangladesh Coordinator of Bangladesh WASH Alliance Aloke Majumder and Country Director of Practical Action Hasin Jahan.
Earlier Manager of Health and Nutrition Department of Max Foundation Shamim Rabbani projected a presentation on Sexual and Reproductive Health.
It was mentioned in the seminar that at least 10 to 15 percent of pregnant women die in Bangladesh due to unhygienic environment during child birth. In a survey taken place in 2010, 194 out of one lakh pregnant women died while giving birth. Still 15 percent women die everyday in the county due to complexity during pregnancy and labour.
