State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam on Tuesday said Bangladesh is a potential investment destination for ICT sector and invited foreign investors to invest in the sector to further its growth and for mutual benefit.
“The present government has been giving importance on the ICT sector for more than five years with a view to transform our country into digital Bangladesh,” he said inviting the visiting Dutch ICT entrepreneurs to invest more in Bangladesh.
The State Minister said the ICT sector infrastructure has been changed significantly, making the dream of having digital Bangladesh true. “Mass people of our country are now getting ICT services.”
He mentioned that Bangladesh is now considered as one of the promising investment destinations in the world for the initiatives taken by the government and the private sector.
Shahriar was addressing a seminar, titled ‘Investing in Bangladesh: Practical Information and Key Constraints’, held in the city, arranged by the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Service (BASIS).
Director General, International Cooperation from the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Christian Rebergen and Netherlands Ambassador in Dhaka Gerben Sjoerd de Jong also spoke as special guests at the seminar chaired by BASIS president Shameem Ahsan.
BASIS senior Vice President Russell T Ahmed delivered the welcome speech and its executive director Sami Ahmed made a presentation highlighting different aspects of the ICT sector of Bangladesh.
Shameem Ahsan said the ICT sector of Bangladesh has been growing tremendously for last few years. “Renowned ICT companies of the world are looking forward to Bangladesh.”
He said country branding is needed to utilize the potentials and mentioned that BASIS regularly arranges different seminars, symposiums, summits, etc to that end.
Christian Rebergen and Ambassador Jong praised the initiatives of the BASIS and Bangladesh government to develop the ICT sector and showed their interest to do business in Bangladesh.
