BCU Nat’l Council begins

The 38th National Council of Bangladesh Chhatra Union began on Sunday at Dhaka University to pick up new leaders for the student organisation.
The theme of the council is ‘Let student-people be united to protect Education and Culture’
Eminent educationist Professor Emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury inaugurated the four-day programme at the base of historical Aparajeyo Bangla of Dhaka University, hoisting
the National and the organisation flags. On the occasion, he said, ‘Students must unite to uphold the spirit of Liberation War.
The veteran professor accused the capitalists and the imperialists forces of creating economic disparity around the world.
He further said that, “Those who understand and those who are conscientious and democratic-minded need to join the poor and the working classes of the country for a change in society
He also urged the leaders and the activists of Chhatra Union to continue their movement for social revolution to build a Bangladesh with the spirit of Liberation War.
Chhatra Union President Lucky Akter said that the student front played a pivotal role in spreading the light of knowledge to remove darkness and inequality in society.
She also said that the Chhtra Union would continue their movement against commercialization of education, communalism and disparity.
Expressing solidarity, All-Nepal National Free Students Unions General Secretary Sunita Baral, Socialist Youth Union of Sri Lankas Avyarannya Acharya and Girish Ananda Pande from India also addressed in the inaugural ceremony.
A cultural programme was held at Raju Memorial Sculpture in the afternoon.
The four-day council features international seminar on April 3 at TSC auditorium of Dhaka University and Council Session of 600 councillors on April 4 and 5.
The last Chhatra Union council was held on September 13-15 in 2015 where Lucky Akter and GM Zilani Shuvo were elected President and General Secretary respectively.
