BCL withdraws strike at CU

CU Correspondent : Academic activities and examinations of Chittagong University could not held yesterday on the first day of an indefinite strike enforced by a fraction of Bangladesh Chattra League Chattagong University, a student wing of ruling party. Accused BCL leaders, who were sued over the murder of Diaz, along with their followers observed the strike demanding the withdrawal of the case and immediate release of the assistant proctor. Meanwhile, another fraction of CU BCL activists who were known as the followers of slain Diaz Irfan Chy brought out a procession on campus demanding immediate resignation of the arrested accused and CU teacher Anwer Hossen Chowdhury. The all are knows as the followers of the City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin According to sources, The accused men and their followers set fire near to university zero point also halted the movement of university bound shuttle trains and public vehicles to resist the students from going to the campus on the morning. As a result, no shuttle train and teacher`s bus went campus by city routes. The demonstrators met CU Vice-Chancellor Pro.Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury around 2 pm .after meeting ,they declared withdrawal of their strike and they also declared their next programs to be a Protest Procession on 20 December, Human Chain on 21 December, Hold Black Flag on 22 December at CU campus , Human Chain on 27 December at chittagong Press Club. CU administrative sources said that no class and examination was held and the campus-bound shuttle train services also remained standstill from the morning. No teachers’ bus also moved from campus, said CU transport sources. Earlier, a section of the accused followers pulled shuttle routes up in various places and halted campus bound shuttle train.Md Shahabuddin, a station master of Sholashahar Railway Station, said that a numbers of students also threatened uttering to attack the train, if its service continues. Later, considering the entire situation the train services were suspended, he said. On the other hand, huge police were deployed to avoid untoward situations. CU proctorial body was on the spot and was trying to get the situation under control.One of the accused men and former president of CU BCL Mohammed Alamgir Tipu confirmed the withdrawal of strike saying that we have already held a meeting with CU VC for quick and fair investigation of the case as well to find out the real accused and quick completion of the trial .we including arrested CU teacher Anwer Hossen Chowdhury are not involved in the Diaz murder case.we urge the court to withdraw the case and release of the assistant proctor immediately. CU Assistant Proctor Liton Mitra said that the Strike has been withdrawn .The situation now is normal. Buses are starting to move. Shuttle train will continue from its night schedule. Earlier A Chittagong court on Monday passed an order to send Anwar Hossen Chowdhury, former Assistant Proctor of Chittagong University, to jail after he surrendered before the court in the murder case of Bangladesh Chhatra League central leader Diaz Irfan Chowdhury. Hearing the news of the rejection of bail petition ,Other accused men of the murder case along with their followers enforced an indefinite strike on campus demanding the withdrawal of the case and immediate release of the former assistant proctor.
