Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Barisal City General Secretary Asim Dewan on Tuesday was suspended from the organisation after his arrest on charge of kidnapping a girl.
BCL President Saifur Rahman Sohag and General Secretary SM Zakir Hossain issued a signed press release saying that the party had
suspended Asim Dewan for breaching the party’s code of conduct.
Officer-in-Charge of Rupganj Police Station Ismail Hossain told The New Nation on Tuesday evening that the police had sent Asim Dewan to Narayanganj Judge Court and the Court put him on two-day remand.
The victim, daughter of Panel Mayor of Barisal Municipality KM Shahidul Islam, was kidnapped by the BCL leader from Bashundhara Residential Area on Monday night.
When the police intercepted him in the Rupganj-Murapara Ferryghat area, they found an unlicensed foreign revolver and five bullets with him and recovered the victim.
Officer-in-Charge of Rupganj Police Station Ismail Hossain told the media that “Asim Dewan and his goons abducted the girl from Bashundhara Residential Area on Monday afternoon.”
“The abduction was immediately reported to the police, RAB and other law enforcement agencies. Police tracked the vehicle down, along with the culprits and the victim, in Rupganj-Murapara ferryghat around 10:30pm,” added Ismail Hossain.
