The leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) went on rampage and vandalized offices of Chittagong railway station as they failed to get tickets of expected destination.Witnesses said dozens of BCL members of Chittagong City College unit, attacked the station and ransacked the offices of railway officials following an altercation with the staff and officials of the Chittagong railway station. Later, they brought out a protest procession demanding punishment of the railway employees.Yeasin Faruq, In-Charge GRP police outpost of the station, told The New Nation that some students of City College, who are also BCL members, became agitated and vandalised the railway station after failing to get tickets. When asked, Nurul Azim Rony, BCL city unit General Secretary said, “We are scheduled to attend a party in Dhaka. So, we have applied for 340 tickets of Dhaka-bound Sugandha Express for August 20. The rail authority assured us to arrange the tickets in time.””As per their assurance, we came here to get the tickets. But the railway employees did not pay heed to our need and engaged in an altercation with us. At one stage, they beat some of our members, leaving two activists injured. They were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital,” he added.”We will continue our demonstration and will not leave the place until the responsible gets punishment,” he added.Denying the allegation, Zafar Iqbal, Station Master of Chittagong Railway Station, said: “Our staffs did not beat any of them up. It is true that they applied for the tickets earlier. But, without talking to us properly, today they engaged in an unnecessary argument with us.””They directly showed their political power and misbehaved with our officials. At one stage, they went on a rampage.”In face of protests, the authority has suspended Station Master Zafar Iqbal, booking clerk Mohsin Ali and three RNB members, said Murad Hossain, Divisional Railway Manager of Purbanchol Bangladesh Railway.The Railway Authority has also formed a five-member probe body headed by Divisional Traffic Officer Firoze Iftekhar.
