A group of leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhattra League (BCL) at Rajshahi University (RU) on Friday mid night beat up a student severely suspecting him as an activist of Islami Chhattra Shibir.
The victim was identified as Waliullah, a fourth year student of biochemistry and molecular science department of the university.
Hall sources said, at 12:00 am about 10 to 12 BCL leaders and activists led by its RU unit entertainment affairs secretary Anik Saha caught Waliullah at Madar Box hall while he was in the room no. 105 with his friend and forcefully interrogated him.
At one stage, BCL activists beat him up severely with iron rods and bamboo sticks which crated fracture in his leg.
On information, law enforcers rescued Waliullah and admitted at the university medical centre. Later, he was referred at Rajshahi Medical Collage Hospital in a critical condition.
On contacted, Anik Saha told that they handed over Waliullah to police only after slapping him as he confessed as Shibir leader.
Alamgir Hossain, Officer-In-Charge of Motihar thana police station told that on information of beating up a student police had rescued Waliullah and managed medical treatment.
