Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, students wing of the ruling Awami League on early Wednesday beat up at least thirteen students severely at Shaheed Suhrawardy Hall of Rajshahi University, suspecting that they were involved with the activities of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student front of Jamaat-e-Islami, and handed them over to police.
Among the thirteen students, twelve students were undergoing treatment at various wards of Rajshahi Medical Collage Hospital while the condition of one of the students was critical.
The detainees were identified as Ashikul Hasan Nafis, final year student of anthropology department, Ariful Islam, masters student of linguistic department, Rakib Ahmed, second year student of law department, Mahmudul Hasan, final year student of botany department, Shariful Islam, final year student of statistic department, Jakir Hossain, third year student of islamic history and culture department, Shahnur Alam Himel, final year student of statistics department, Saheb Rana, third year student of information and communication engineering department, Abdur Rakib, third year student of islamic studies department, Golam Robbani, second year student of arabic department and Nabiul Islam, Aliul Islam and Abu Jafor, masters students of arabic department.
