BCL men attack JCD demo at IU: 3 injured

A group of activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Islamic University (IU) unit in Kushtia attacked a rally of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) with sharp weapons and stickson Saturdaymorning, leaving three JCD activists injured.
Witnesses said some 100 activists of BCL, a student wing of ruling Awami League, led by its IU unit secretary Jewel Rana Halim made the attack on the JCD menwhile they were trying to bring out a procession protesting the arrest of party’s central general secretary Akramul Hasan near the university area around7:00 am.
The injured JCD activists – Kamrul Islam, Mahbub Rahman and Ullash – took primary treatment at a local hospital, JCD IU unit president Omar Faruk told UNB.
Contacted, Jewel Rana Halim, secretary of IU BCL unit, said BCL activists have just resisted the JCD activists as they were trying to create anarchy on the campus.
In-charge of IU Police Outpost Raton Sheikh said police, meanwhile, have brought the situation under control.
