A local leader of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has been assaulted and wounded in an attack by his ‘political opponents’ in Netrokona.
Assailants attacked Satya Das Saikat, the District BCL Vice-president, around 12:15am
Friday in the area around the Eidgah ground of Nagra, said Netrokona Model Police Station Inspector Shahnur Alam. Saikat is the son of New Town area resident Shankar Das. Police said the attack was motivated by conflicts between ‘political opponents’, but they declined to provide more details.
“There had been some conflict in the local BCL due to the formation of a new district committee. Because of this Saikat was attacked and wounded with a machete on his way home,” Inspector Shahnur told bdnews24.com.
Locals found Saikat after the attack and rushed him to Netrokona Modern Sadar Hospital. With his condition deteriorating he was transferred to Square Hospital in the capital. Police are on the hunt for those involved in the attack, Inspector Shahnur added.
