BCL leader held on various charges

A Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) central-committee executive member, who was charged in several cases was arrested from Chittagong University on Sunday night.
The arrestee was Mohammad Rakib Hossain, a former senior vice-president of Chittagong University unit Chhatra League, locally known as the Rakib-Sakib’s group Rakib, who lead the campus Chhatra League during 2011.
A team of Hathazari Thana police rounded him up from the 2 no. gate area, adjacent to the university around 8.30 pm on Sunday, said Hathazari Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Belal Uddin Jahangir.
Rakib was charged for several cases with Hathazari Thana including illegal arms possession, truck-robbery and recent-attack on police at Bagaichari, Rangamati. Rakib was an accused of arms possession case on that the court issued warrant against him in 2011, he said.
Side by side, a Chhatra League leader of CU unit, hold with gun on May 5, 2017 and recently confessional statement to the court under section 164 of CrPc, saying Rakib’s involvement in the truck-looting, said police sources.
University sources said, Rakib was charged for several cases for factional clashes and was continuing his wrongdoings to the campus, even after his academic life has expired here. Notable, he obtained post-graduation from Chittagong University in 2015. However, Rakib was still leading a stronghold group of Chhatra League here.
After the information of his arrest spread out across the campus his supporters blocked the shuttle-train operation for an hour and tried to put the main entrance of the campus under key and lock.
The leaders and activists of the BCL, mainly his supporters demanded the immediate release.
