BCL infighting at CU, 9 injured

Eight activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League were injured during a factional clash at Chittagong University (CU) yesterday over establishing control on its 70th founding anniversary rally .The incident took place at university zero point at 12.30 pm on Thursday.
The injured students have been identified as Abdullah al Rayhan, Omar Faruque, a student of International Relationship under 2013-14 session; Royal , student of Sanskrit department under 14-15 academic session, Mughda of Foresty and Enviroment department and Alamin of physics department under 15-16 academic session. .On the other hand,the injured students of VX group are identified as Imran of Bangla department under 16-17 session, Namul of Business Administration 2012-13 session, Tanvir and Rijib of Economic department under 11-12 academic session.
The Sixty Nine group is led by Mansur Alam, former Vice-president of BCL CU chapter, and VX group is led by Mizanur Rahman Bipol,
former Deputy Office Secretary of BCL, CU unit. Both groups are known as the follower of City Mayor AJM Nasir.
Witnesses and campus sources said that the Sixty Nine and VX groups were preparing for bringing out the procession on the occasion of the founding anniversary. During this time, the other party leaders and activists talked to VX about standing in front of the procession and got screwed. At one stage, VX activists attracted Sixty Nine activists. In the meantime, panic spread in the whole campus. Later, activists of both groups gathered separately and involved in a clash in front of Suhrawardi Hall. Local arms were seen during clashes. Police rushed to the spot and took the situation under control. After one hour, the two sides were clashing again for the second round. The police beat some activists of Sixty Nine group to take position under control. Both groups are now staying at Shahjalal and Suhrawardy Halls separately. A large number of police personnel were deployed on campus to avoid collision.
Mansur Alam, former Vice-President of BCL CU chapter, said, “When we were ready to bring out a colorful rally, former Chattra Dall Leader Bipol attacked my activists. Earlier he also tried to break the unity of CU BCL.Bipol is a spy of Chattra Dal. We have evidence that he is Vice-president of District Chattra Dall Unit. CU assistant Proctor Neyaz Murshad unlawfully ordered police to beat my activists’. We want justice to CU administration.
 Mizanur Rahman Bipol, former Deputy Office Secretary of BCL CU unit, said we are trying for a solution. It was a misunderstanding among the junior activists.
CU Assistant Proctor Liton Mitra said, “We rushed to the sport with Police. Both groups are staying at Shah Jalal Hall and heard the news of factional clash and ordered police to take proper steps. No one has submitted allegation in connection”.
Baizid Sajal ,former joint secretary and leader of one group, said that we want new committee with new leader. We expect central BCL committee to observe the situation and declare new CU committee.
Former General Secretary of CU BCL HM Fazly Rabbi Sujan did not respond to our phone.
Assistant Police Super of Hathazari Police Station Abdullah Al Masum said that there was a clash between two groups of BCL. Eight were injured in the incident. The situation is now under control. No one was arrested.
