BCL-factional infighting leaves 17 injured

At least 17 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chharta League’s (BCL) Chittagong University (CU) chapter were injured in two-phase factional clash on the campus on Thursday night and Friday noon. Among the injured, ten BCL leaders including CU unit Joint Secretary BaizidSajal and Organizing Secretary Jahangir Jibon rushed to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in critical injury.
Police sources and eye witness said, the followers of BCL president AlamgirTipu and the fellows of general secretary Fazle Rabbi Sujon triggered the massive clashe on Thursday night over a trifling matter, leaving 15 injured with three critical injury. ‘The clash ensued from an altercation at the university bound shuttle train around 9.15 while a junior activist of Chhatra League allegedly harassed a senior leader and the senior leader strictly protest it’ a student on board on shuttle train said.
They blasted around 5 Molotov cocktails during the clash and the clash continued for one hour more. During the clash, the activists of AlamgirTipu took position at Shahjalal Hall and the activists of FazleSujon at the Shah Amanat Hall. ‘They pelted stone, brick chips each other and also chased the opposite group with irony rod, matched and country made weapon’ eye witness said. After police action two group backed to their respective halls and the situation brought under control.
All the injured were taken to CU Medical Centre immediately, said BCL sources. Meanwhile, another factional infighting took place yesterday noon, followed by the Thursday night clash, leaving two injured. When the police went into action, the clash turned calm.
Meanwhile, the police conducted a raid into the two halls, recovering huge brick chips, stones, irony rod, and sticks and matched and detained 23 activists of Chhatra League. Among the detainee 12 BCL men were detained from Shahjalal Hall and the rest of them from Shah Amanat Hall, said proctor Ali Azgor Chowdhury.
