BCL factional clash at DU dormitory

7 injured, 20 cocktails, 100 local weapons recovered

At least seven activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Surja Sen Hall unit, Dhaka University were injured in a factional clash over a trifling matter on Friday afternoon in the hall.
On information, police visited the spot and recovered 20 crude bombs and at least 100 local weapons,
including chapattis, iron rods and pipes.
The clash took place between hall unit president Mubarak Hossein and general secretary Sujon groups. Eyewitnesses said that the clash began when Belal of the general secretary group locked in an altercation with Nahid of president group over knocking the washroom’s door of the hall. At that time Belal was inside the washroom for preparing himself for Jumma prayers.
After the Jumma prayer, the agitating activists of the President group led by Nahid attacked Belal and some of his friends when they came to the Kobi Jasim Uddin Hall canteen. The clash gradually spread all over the Suraj Sen Hall between the activists of two rival groups that left seven injured. Several crude bombs were exploded during the clash.
The injured were identified as Belal, Sahadat, Iqbal, Nahid, Naem, Monir and Abu sayed. All of them are the first year students. They were sent to the Dhaka Medica Colege Hospital, said DU Acting Proctor Dr M Amzad Ali.
The proctor said that the clash erupted inside the dormitory following an altercation over a trifling matter. A probe-body will be formed to look into the incident, he added.
On information, Shabagh police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. At the time, police recovered 20 cocktails and 100 local weapons, including some chapattis, from several rooms of BCL men. However, none was arrested in this regard.
