Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Wednesday celebrated the 53rd birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Marking the day, a cake was cut by BCL leaders and workers at the Dhaka University’s (DU) ‘Soparjito Swadhinata Chattar’ in front of Teachers- Students Center (TSC) on the campus.
On October 18, 1964, Sheikh Russell, also the younger brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born at the historic Bangabandhu’s Dhanmondi residence.
On the fateful night of August 15, 1975, Sheikh Russell was assassinated along with most of his family members, including his father by a group of disgruntled army men, when he was a student of class IV at the University Laboratory School.
BCL organised a function on DU campus in observance of the day, distributing educational materials among the school students. BCL President Saifur Rahman Sohag, General Secretary SM Jakir Hossain, President of BCL DU unit Abid Al Hasan were present, among others, at the function.
