Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of ruling Awami League, on Thursday burnt effigy of BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tareque Rahman for his calling Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman ‘illegal prime minister’ of
independent Bangladesh. Tarique passed such remark on Tuesday from London, The UK.
The BCL leaders and workers brought out a procession from Madhu’s canteen and ended at the base of the Aparajeya Bangla after parading different roads of the university. Thereafter they held a rally there. Speaking at the rally, BCL General Secretary Siddique Nazmul Alam said, “If Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the first illegal prime minister, then the Tareque Rahman is the illegal son of the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
“The nation will resist his evil design against the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman” Nazmul added. Nazmul said that Tarique had become a historian to tell lies only about Bangabandhu and the independence of Bangladesh.
The leaders and activists of the BCL, however, demanded exemplary punishment to Tarique Rahman. After the meeting, Chhatra League burnt BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman’s effigy at the base of the Aparajyea Bangla.
