Defending champions, Walton Central Zone is firm to retain the title of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) which is going to kick off today (Sunday).
Walton Central Zone will face East Zone at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) in Saver at 9:30am in the opener of the second edition of the tournament.
The first two rounds of the four-team competition will be held at the BKSP before the franchisee-based first class tournament breaks for Sri Lanka’s Tour in Bangladesh, the Asia Cup and the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014.
Walton Central Zone has already boosted themselves up having sufficient practice over the last two days under the guidance of coach Mizanur Rahman Babul.
“Our main target is to retain the trophy. We have a strong combination in batting and spinning sections though we are in short in the pace bowling attack,” Central Zone coach Mizanur Rahman Babul told the risingbd.com after a 3-hour training session at the BCB Academy ground in Mirpur on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, opener Shamsur Rahman Shuvo was very excited to play in longer-version cricket after a break of three months. He told the risingbd.com that his main task will be to keep the wicket as long as possible.
“The tournament will definitely provide much confidence ahead of the Sri Lanka tour in Bangladesh later in the month,” the right hand batman added.
However, Shahriar Nafees sees the tournament as an opportunity to catch the national selectors’ eye for the long desire to coming back in the international cricket.
