UNB, Dhaka :
Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka has said the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar (BCIM) Economic Corridor initiative has gained a momentum over the last two years and the four countries plan to sit together in the third round of joint working group meeting by this year-end in India.
“If you look at last one-two years, it has been developing very fast. We’ve held two rounds of joint working group meetings. So, it’s gaining speed,” Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Ma Mingqiang told UNB.
He said the four countries have already finished their country reports and those will finally be merged integrating all the aspects. “The final report will be adopted in the next joint working group meeting.”
The first joint working group meeting of the BCIM was held in China while the second one in Cox’s Bazar.
Responding to a question, he said though the issue was being discussed for long he finds it as something new as it takes time to get acquainted with.
Ambassador Ma said the four countries have so many differences in the areas like culture, religion, political system and development level but all the countries are supportive to the initiative.
He said the countries need to focus on functional cooperation first and it should not be stopped within discussion level rather all can jointly make it happen if it is really beneficial for all.
