Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday announced a 14-member squad of Bangladesh National Cricket Team for the first two ODIs of the three-match series against South Africa beginning 12 noon on July 10 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Mahmudullah and Anamul Haque have been recalled in the squad while Rony Talukdar, Mominul Haque and injured Taskin Ahmed excluded from the previous ODI team which played against India.
Mahmudullah who fractured his left index finger in June ahead of the India series and who remained out for more than a month has been included in the team after physio clearance.
Anamul was out for more than four months following his right shoulder injury during the World Cup match against Scotland on March 5.
Mahmudullah will lead the spinners with Nasir Hossain’s assistance while skipper Mashrafe Mortaza will lead the pace attack with Rubel Hossain and Mustafizur Rahman.
Bangladesh national team chief selector Faruque Ahmed said Anamul had discussed with the captain on his batting approach and would bat in the top order.
“Talukdar could still come back because he was among out preferred players,” Faruque said.
“We think (Anamul Haque) Bijoy is in form…… we discussed with the team management before picking him,” the chief selector continued.
“Soumya was successful as an opener……… he is among our best 17-18 players,” Faruque concluded.
The second ODI is scheduled for July 12 at the same venue while the third and last ODI will take place at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
Bangladesh won only one match against South Africa in 2007 ICC World Cup among their 14 ODI battles.
