BBC launches new TV serial

Ujan Ganger Naiya, a new entertaining family drama serial, launched on Bangladesh Television (BTV) on May 11.
Produced by BBC Media Action, Ujan Ganger Naiya will be on air every Sunday at 8:30pm with a repeat every Thursday 8:35am.
The plot centres on young sisters Jasmin and Anika, who are married to two brothers. 16-year-old Anika wants to continue her education and struggles to adapt to life as a wife and daughter-in-law. Through her story, the drama explores the challenges of early marriage and pregnancy. Set within a rural, riverside community and, filled with authentic and powerful characters, Ujan Ganger Naiya is made for ordinary Bangladeshi families.
The 16-episode first series is directed by Gias Uddin Selim and Bashar Georges and written by Giasuddin Selim and a team of writers. The crew and cast features star performers like Mamunur Rashid, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Wahida Mollick Jolly, Chanchal Chowdhury, Deepa
Khandokar, Orchita Sporshiya, Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, Shyamol Mawla, Shahed Ali, Momena Chowdhury and many more.
Ujan Ganger Naiya encourages families to have safer pregnancies, childbirth and take
better care of newborn babies. The drama has been made with funds from the UK’s Department for International Development.
To mark its launch, a premier show and meet the press took place at Star Cineplex in Bashundhara City on May 10.
