Business Desk :
The loan repayment deadline for borrowers from non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) has been extended till June, considering the Covid induced adverse situation.
However, it is not applicable to all clients in general. Depending on the relationship between the borrower and the institution, only those who are deemed eligible by the financial institutions may avail of the benefit.
The Department of Financial Institutions and Markets (DFIM) of Bangladesh Bank issued a directive in this regard on Tuesday.
According to the directive, the instalments that were supposed to be paid in March can now be paid until 30 June.
Clients who are having difficulties in repaying their loans due to pandemic induced problems will enjoy the facility depending on their respective relationships with financial institutions.
Loans can be classified for this period, with no penalty, interest, or any additional fee, charge, or commission to be imposed.
Bank borrowers of banks as well as financial institutions did not have to repay their loan instalments under special arrangements, due to the pandemic in the last year.
