A Bangladesh Bank official and his two daughters killed and three others critically injured when a lorry hit their private car at Fouzdarhat area under Sitakundu upazila on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway on Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Bangladesh Bank Joint Director Saifuzzaman Mintu, 45, his two teenage daughters Ashra Anam Khanam, 14 and Tanim Zaman Khan, 12.
Victim Saifuzzaman Mintu was inhabitant of Nichontopur village under Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur district.
Injured victims are identified as Kanika Akhter, 35, wife of the deceased Saifuzzaman and his 10-year-old son.
Relative’s sources said that they were returning to their city’s Mirpur residence from Chattogram in the morning. Afterwards, a covered van rammed their private car at Fouzdarhat By-pass Road Intersection on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway at 8 am, leaving two daughters dead on the spot and three others injured.
Later, locals rescued the injured and rushed them to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital where Saifuzzaman succumbed to his injuries at around 11:30am.
Zahirul Haque Bhuiyan, Outpost in-Charge of Chattogram Medical College Hospital Police confirmed the matter to the media that police rescued car from the spot where lorry couldn’t be seized instantly.
