Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman on Thursday underscored the need for investment in Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector with a view to earning more foreign currency.
The BPO sector has lot of opportunities to boost the economy and even the demand of data management is rapidly growing in the banking sector to reduce credit risk, said the governor while addressing a session on opportunities and challenges in banking outsourcing at a city hotel.
The discussion session is a part of the two-day long BPO Summit 2015 on ICT industry, which started on Wednesday at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the city.
The ICT Division in association with Bangladesh Association of Call Centre and Outsourcing (BACCO) organized the summit in order to brand Bangladesh as an ideal place for investment and business management.
Sajeeb Wazed Joy, ICT adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the event.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak presided over the inaugural session. The organizers have invited over 40 prominent local and international famous personalities in ICT sector as speakers for different sessions.
In the closing day, the governor said “I have followed with keen interest the deliberations in this summit session on the opportunities to reap from and the challenges involved in grooming up BPO service provider platforms for the banking sector in Bangladesh for cost efficient, secure outsourcing of their various business processes”.
The steadily growing financial sector with its ongoing thrust on inclusive farm and non-farm MSME financing is experiencing rapid expansion in the number of smaller sized loans, with heightening cost efficiency challenges in data processing and management, said the governor.
He congratulated the ICT Division and the BACCO for their timely initiative in organizing this discussion session on this promising area.
He hoped that the IT sector and banking sector entities will work together to come up soon with a few definitive proposals for setting up BPO entities in Bangladesh.
