BB governor receives ‘Central Banker of the Year’ award

Bangladesh Bank governor Dr. Atiur Rahman received ‘Central Banker of the Year 2015’ award at House of Lords in London on Friday.
London-based Financial Times-owned magazine The Banker awarded him last month the best governor from the Asia-Pacific region for his role in stimulating growth and stabilising economy.
The BB governor was conferred the award by Brian Caplen, the editor of The Banker, at a function at House of Lords in London with Lord Sheikh.
Receiving the award, the BB governor said the award has been a big recognition to the advancement of Bangladesh in a crucial global economic situation, according to a message received here Saturday.
“This credit should go to each and every members of Bangladesh Bank who work jointly for the advancement of economy despite global economic meltdown,” Dr. Atiur told reporters in his reaction.
The Banker’s editor Brian Caplen said Dr. Atiur has done the basic things like containing inflation and brining stability in economy.
The function was attended, among others, by Bangladesh-born British MPs Rusnara Ali and Baroness Pala Monjila uddin, and British businessman Iqbal Ahmed.
Dr Atiur was appointed the 10th governor of Bangladesh Bank on May 1, 2009 for four years. His job tenure was extended last year for another term.
In November last year, Dr Atiur received the ‘GUSI Peace Prize International 2014’ award in recognition of his work in banking sector.
