No alternatives to development of Ctg Port: Bay Terminal to be built on first -track priority : PSC Chairman

The members of the Parliamentary Standing committee on Ministry of Ports & Shipping led by its Chairman Major(Rtd) Rafiqul Islam visited the under contracting Patenga container terminal, NCT, CCT and Karnaphuli channel Friday in a pilot vessel of the port . The PSC members started their journey in Karnaphuli Channel from Boat Club premise.
The other members of the PSC are Ranjil Kumar Roy MP, Mahfuzur Rahman MP, M Abdul Latif MP, Dr. Samil Uddin Shimul MP, SM Shahjada MP, joint secretary of the ministry Abdus Sattar, Deputy Secretary Begum Maleka Parvin, Dr Dayal Chand Mandal, Deputy Director of Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Abdul Jabbar, senior Asstt. Secretary SM Aminul Islam.
The chief of the PSC said there is no alternative of sustaining the Karnaphuli river to save the Chattogram Port. He beside the capital dredging of Karnaphuli River, it is essential to resist the pollution of river water and eviction of illegal occupants from the banks of the river. He apprised that Prime Minister will immediately undertake the positive measures to bring the constructions of Bay Terminal in first track.
The committee members witnessed the overall scenario of the Karnaphuli River up to Shah Amanat Bridge during their visit. Among others, Member(Engr) Capt Mohidul Hasan Chowdhury, Harbour Marine commodore Shafiul Bari, chief Hydro-grapher Commodore Arifur Rahaman, Port Secretary Omar Faruk, Deputy Manager (Estate) Zillur Rahman, Deputy Secretary Azizul Mowla were present beside the members. The PSC members will visit the proposed Matarbari Deep Seaport in Moheskhali travelling through sea route from Chattogram Port.
