A baul (Folk) singer was killed and two of his troupe members were injured in an attack by unidentified miscreants at Dumdia village in Sadar upazila of Jessore district on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Muktar Hossain, 31, a resident of the village.
Emdadul Haque, officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali Police Station, said a group of miscreants made a sudden swoop on the podium where Mukter’s troupe was performing at about 11:00 pm.
The attackers then exploded 5/6 crude bombs and stabbed Muktar indiscriminately.
Two others of his troupe also received injuries in the explosion.
Informed, police rescued the trio and rushed them to Jessore 250-bed Hospital where on-duty doctors declared Muktar dead.
Law enforcers recovered the body and sent it to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Injured Sabbir said about 10 members of their troupe were rendering sons at the function at a mango orchard of one Malek in the area.
