The Bangladesh agricultural University (BAU) observed its 57th Founding Anniversary with a befitting manner on Sunday. President M Abdul Hamid was the chief guest at the function.
He urged all concerned to give priority to the cultivation of different varieties of disaster-tolerant crops and to protect biodiversity in tackling the negative impact of climate change in agriculture.
The President said, you would have to decide the strategy for tackling natural disaster and cultivating different varieties of crops. He said, adverse effects of climate change are a reality of the present.
To achieve this, we must give maximum priority to solving the problems caused by climate change in order to achieve our achievements in agriculture.
Hamid said, “Farmers of Haor area are dependent on a single crop every year. All of them, including agriculturalists and agricultural extension, will have to come forward to reduce their crop dependency. To maintain the success of agriculture, with the increase in production, the fair price for agricultural products must be ensured. In our country, due to the lack of preservation of seasonal fruits and agricultural products, All the concerned people will come forward to save and process these products.
He urged to make more agriculturists and agricultural scientists in the proper implementation of the agriculture policy of the present government.
The President and BAU Acharja praised the research and academic activities of this institution established on 18th August 1961.
In this era of modern globalization and knowledge of the economy, in this era, if a university persists in its character, its territorial, national and global position must be clarified.
It is possible to specify through institutional utility, quality and international character. I am delighted to know that as a pioneer and higher education in the field of higher agricultural education, Bangladesh Agricultural University is very specific in its education and research.
Pointing out that Bangladesh is moving forward on the highway of development by establishing a rare example in the world, she said that the present government has been doing an outstanding development in the socio-economic areas of the country keeping the spirit of the war of liberation war and father of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Following the continuation of Vision-2021 and Vision-2041, Bangladesh continued its advancement on the highway of development. The President laid the foundation stone of the Haor and Char development institute and visited the technology fair organized by the University Administration and Alumni Association.
