Chattogram Bureau :
Former Vice President of Bangladesh Sangbadparta Parishad (BSP) Mainuddin Quaderi Showkat has demanded immediate release of Barrister Mainul Hosein, Chairman of the Editorial Board of The New Nation.
In a statement on Wednesday, Showkat, also ex-member of World Association of Press Council and Bangladesh Press Council, said after soliciting apology from the concerned person and expressing sorry, the matter should have been settled there. But he is being harassed lodging cases in different parts of the country, which is not at all desirable, he said.
Barrister Mainul is a former lawmaker during Bangabandhu’s regime just after the independence of Bangladesh. He is also a renowned lawyer of the Supreme Court.
The statement added Barrister Mainul is the son of one of the dreamers of Bangladesh Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah.
Showkat also condemned the recent attack on Barrister Mainul Hosein by the unruly persons at the Rangpur court premises.
“Barrister Mainul is now sick at jail custody and he should be released immediately,” he demanded.
