Former Caretaker Government’s adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein was shifted to Rangpur Central Jail from Keraniganj Central Jail on Saturday. He will be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Rangpur today (Sunday) for hearing of bail petition against a defamation case.
Rangpur Central Jail’s Prison Officer Amjad Hossen said that he received Barrister Mainul at around 5:00pm and awarded him the division-1 facilities in the jail in light of a previous order of the Court.
“He (Barrister Mainul) will be produced in the court tomorrow (Sunday),” Amjad Hossen said.
Barrister Mainul was arrested from the city’s Uttara on October 22 in a defamation case filed by human rights activists Milli Maya Begum in Rangpur. He was first taken to DB (Detective Branch) office on the Mintu Road and sent to Keraniganj Central Jail the following day after he was produced in a lower court in Dhaka.
On October 25, the chief judicial magistrate of Rangpur rejected the bail petition submitted by Barrister Mainul’s lawyers on the ground of non-availability of the case documents.
Barrister Mainul’s lawyer Shafi Kamal said that the hearing on his bail petition will be held on Sunday (November 4) in Rangpur.
“This is a bailable case,” Shafi Kamal said.
