The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday sent BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Barrister Kaiser Kamal, who was arrested over an alleged affair with the wife of a junior lawyer at his law firm, to the jail.
Magistrate Debabrata Biswas of the CMM Court put him behind bars pending trial on Thursday after police produced him with a three-day remand plea which the court turned down.
However, the court dismissed a bail appeal filed on behalf of Barrister Kamal on Thursday. Police arrested Barrister Kamal near the Square Hospital in Panthapath area on Wednesday.
According to Kalabagan Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Asaduzzaman, Atiqur Rahman lodged a case alleging deceit under section 420 of the Penal Code after he saw his wife getting into Kaiser’s car on Wednesday evening.
It has been learnt that Atiqur had a heated argument with Kaiser when an enthusiastic mob gathered around them. Later, police arrived at the spot and took Kaiser to the police station.
Kaiser Kamal has been shown arrested in the case, according to law enforcing force.
Atiqur stated in the complaint that Kaiser Kamal had been having an affair with his wife since February 1, last year.
