Fortune Barishal will take on Comilla Victorians in the final of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in the city’s Mirpur today. The gala final will start at 5.30pm. Private satellite channel GTV, private satellite sports channel T Sports will telecast the match live from the venue.
Barishal moved into the final beating Comilla Victorians by 10 runs in the first qualifier at the same venue on February 14.
Chattogram Challengers reached the second qualifier defeating Khulna Tigers by seven runs in the eliminator phase on the same day. Thus, Khulna Tigers were out of the title race.
Later, Comilla Victorians stormed into the final thrashing Chattogram Challengers by seven wickets in the second qualifier on February 16.
A total of six teams took part in the first phase of the BPL Cricket. They are: Fortune Barishal, Comilla Victorians, Chattogram Challengers, Khulna Tigers, Minister Group Dhaka and Sylhet Sunrisers. Of them, Barishal, Comilla, Chattogram and Khulna reached the play-off stage. Dhaka and Sylhet failed to move into the play-off phase.
There is a bad news for Barishal that ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan could not take part in the practice session on Thursday due to illness. Shakib is in a good form. He was adjudged the Man of the Match for successive five times which is a record of BPL or any other T20 cricket competitions. Apart from Shakib, the other members of Barishal took part in the practice session at the BCB-NCA Ground in Mirpur, which is adjacent to the SBNCS.
On the other hand, Mahmudul Hasan Joy of Comilla Victorians only participated in the practice session yesterday. The other members of Comilla were tired as they played their crucial second qualifier against Chattogram Challengers on Wednesday night.
The champions of the BPL 2022 will be awarded Taka one crore, while the runners-up of the BPL 2022 will get Taka fifty lakh.
