Capturing business by ruling party cadres: Barisal Cable TV operators threaten strike

Cable TV operators of Barisal Division have threatened to observe strike protesting capturing their business by ruling party cadres.
Holding a press conference at Abdul Khalek Auditorium of the city on Saturday afternoon they announced this in presence of the owners of cable television networks came from different districts, towns, and upazilas of the region. Manjurul Alam, Divisional Convener of Muktadhara unit under Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB) reading a written statement answered questions of the journalists in the press conference.
He alleged that ruling party cadres capturing their business forcibly grabbing equipments, cables, lines, customers, instruments in different areas of the division. On last April 4,2016 a group of ruling party cadres led by Rakibul Islam, former district BCL secretary of Barguna, captured the lines, cables, instruments and 12 hundred customers of Barguna Cable Network, Manjurul alleged. Like that area Cable TV business already captured or went under direct or indirect control by the ruling party cadres in different regions of the division, Manjurul added.
In the press conference he announced that COAB members of the division will observe 3-hour strike in the division from 7:00pm-10:00pm on April 19 in all areas and units of the region. If the situation would not be changed, especially the grabbed business of the Barguna unit would not be returned, and then they will call countrywide total strike of COAB, participated unit leaders of the association announced in the press meet.
