The state-run Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration Company Ltd (BAPEX) has started extraction of gas from Shahbazpur gas well of Bhola again on Wednesday.
Primarily BAPEX will extract 20 to 25mmcf gas daily. Power Development Board can run previously installed 225MW power plant in Bhola.
BAPEX discovered the gas field in 1995. Later the government awarded the gas field to
Russian Gazprom for deve-loping it cost of Tk 185 crore.
But production of the gas field was shut downed after eight months as water and sand through the gas well. Later BAPEX improved the gas field and finally started extraction of gas from well No-4 on October 5.
BAPEX would have a scope of increasing gas extraction from the field gradually and selling it to PDB.
