Banners, posters hanging violating code of elec: CCC polls

Although there is no provision to run any campaign before the allotment of election symbols, banners and posters with greetings are hanging all over the city before the start of the chattogram City Corporation election campaign. The Election Commission says no action is being taken as there are no complaints.
It can be seen that banner and posters of mayor candidate Rezaul Karim Chowdhury are hanging in different areas including Kata Pahar Lane in front of Anderkilla Jameson Red Crescent Hospital in the city. Besides, banners and posters with greetings of different candidates are also hanging in Atura Depot and Hamzarbagh area of the city.
Article 5 of the Electoral Code of Conduct states that no candidate or any political party, individual or organization may start any type of election campaign before the allotment of the symbol. According to the rules, the campaign can be started 21 days before the voting.
As per the rescheduling, the campaign can be started from January 8.
Mohammad Hasanuzzaman, Chattogram Regional Election Officer and Returning Officer of CCC Election, told the media that if any candidate violates the election code of conduct, there is an opportunity to lodge a specific complaint with the Returning Officer. The Election Commission will take action if anyone complains.He said a magistrate would be appointed in the constituency from January 8 to monitor the code of conduct. CCC elections will be held on January 27, Chattogram Election office sources added.
