Banks, stocks resume business today

All scheduled banks will open today (Sunday) after the nine-day official holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr. Share trading at country’s stock exchanges will resume on the same day.
The banks and the stock markets remained closed for nine days from July 1 to 9 marking the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
Branches of the banks in commercial areas, shopping malls and customs facilities, however, remained opened during the holiday. The branches around major business establishments were open on July 2, 3 and 4 and the branches at customs facilities remained open on July 8-9 for facilitating urgent banking services to the business and exporters and importers.
Bangladesh Bank (BB) in a circular issued before Eid also asked all banks to ensure adequate security at their head offices, branches and ATMs’ sites.
Stock market closed week on June 30 upward through maintaining a steady rise for the fourth consecutive session. There was no share trading at Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges in the last nine days, as the market remained closed for Eid-ul-Fitr.
