Bankers-small entrepreneurs’ relation must for strengthening economy

Speakers at a seminar here Saturday stressed upon close relation between bankers and small entrepreneurs as such a link is very much indispensable for making the field-level banking activities a total success.
At a seminar on Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) held at the local press club auditorium, they said effective banking activities could be the means of boosting small entrepreneurs in the country’s south-western region to the greater benefit of the producers.
With Md. Humayun Kabir, Khulna regional general manager of Pubali Bank Ltd, in the chair, the seminar was organized by nine branches of the Bank’s regional office. Monoj Kanti Bairagi, general manager of Bangladesh Bank in Khulna, was the chief guest.
Md. Habibur Rahman, general manager of Pubali Bank, S M Obaidullah, director of Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI), Kazi Enayet Kabir, president of Khulna Hardware and Machinery Merchants Association, S M Zahid Hossain, general secretary of Khulna Press Club, Shamima Sultana Shilu, divisional chief of Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industries(BWCCI) in Khulna and Lutfun Haque Pia, general secretary of Khulna BCCI, addressed the function.
Md. Amzad Hossain Khan, deputy general manager of SME and special programmes division of Bangladesh Bank in Khulna, was present as chief resource person. Wahid Shams, assistant general manager of PBL, made the welcome speech.
The speakers urged the bank officials at all levels to working with utmost sincerely and dedication to ensure improved services to the clients to help boost economic activities and development in building a poverty free Bangladesh.
The chief guest called for increasing capitals, deposits and investments in various sectors, realising classified loans, achieving all loan disbursement targets, increasing remittance and non-fund incomes and ensuring the best services to all clients of the PBL.
A workshop and a loan distribution ceremony were held at the end of the seminar where a total of Tk 1.73 crore was distributed among the SME.
Later, the chief guest inaugurated a day-long SME loan fair on the Khulna Press Club premises. A total of 20 stalls joined at the fair.
